Why distance disappears after 50

Losing distance isn't "just getting older". It's four trainable systems quietly degrading at once.

If you've watched mobility stiffen, standing stiffer over the ball, or felt the back complain after eighteen holes — that's not age. It's hip flexibility, thoracic rotation, glute strength and rotational power all declining at once. Trained correctly, every one of those systems responds at any age.

This Playbook is the systematic, evidence-based program Neil uses in clinic — distilled into a self-directed twelve-week format. It's built for golfers who want to play meaningfully better golf into their seventies, not chase a quick fix.

How the program is built

Four pillars of a golf-ready body.

PILLAR 011

Mobility

Hips, thoracic spine, shoulders. The range to get into position without leaking force.

PILLAR 022

Stability

Anti-rotation core. The ability to hold force during the swing without bleeding it sideways.

PILLAR 033

Strength

Glutes, posterior chain, grip. The engine that produces force through the range you have.

PILLAR 044

Power

Rotational and lower-body speed. The rate at which strength becomes clubhead speed.

"
It's time to start playing golf smarter by making decisions on and off the course that support longevity, reduce strain on your body, and help you improve your score.

Built for golfers who refuse to slow down.

This is for you if…

  • You're 40 to 80 and want to play meaningfully better golf for the next decade
  • You'd swap five yards of distance for fewer days of back stiffness
  • You're willing to commit 35–45 minutes, three times a week
  • You want a structured program — not random YouTube exercises

This isn't for you if…

  • You have an active injury or recent surgery — book a consult first
  • You want a single-session "10 yards in 7 days" hack
  • You're not willing to do three sessions per week consistently

Meet Neil Russell

Twenty years rebuilding athletes. Now self-directed for you.

Neil is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) and ESSA-registered practitioner based on the Central Coast of NSW. For two decades he's worked with surgeons, GPs and clubs to help golfers, tennis players and surfers play meaningfully better — particularly through the decades when most athletes quietly fade.

The Atleta Playbooks are the same protocols he uses in clinic, distilled into a self-directed format anyone can follow.

Frequently Asked

The questions golfers ask us most.

How do I know if I'm too old to start?
If you can walk eighteen holes (with or without a buggy), you can start the Playbook. Every exercise has graded variations from gentle to challenging. Our oldest current member started at 78. The Tier 2 consult is the safest entry point if you're unsure.
What if I have an active injury?
Book Tier 2 (Playbook + Consult). Neil will assess your specific situation in the 1:1, modify the program around the injury, and flag anything that needs your GP or local AEP first. We don't recommend Tier 1 self-paced if you have an active injury or recent surgery.
How much time per week does it actually take?
Three structured sessions of 35–45 minutes, plus a 10-minute daily mobility flow. About 2.5 hours a week. The mobility flow is designed to fit into the morning routine you already have.
Do I need a gym?
No. The full program runs from a clear corner of a room with a mat, a resistance band, and a single dumbbell or kettlebell. Substitutions are listed for everything if you don't have specific equipment.
What kind of results can I actually expect?
Most members feel meaningful changes by week six — better range, less morning stiffness, more energy in their sport. Golfers commonly report 8–15 yards added off the tee. Individual results vary; that's why every Playbook carries a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Can I do this alongside my regular golf games?
Yes — the program is designed to complement your golf, not replace it. The pre-round warm-up replaces whatever you currently do before teeing off. Schedule your three weekly sessions on non-golf days where possible.
What happens after the 12 weeks?
Every Tier includes a 12-month maintenance plan. After 12 weeks, you'll have the routine, the knowledge, and the body to maintain the gains yourself. Tier 3 members get a personalised maintenance roadmap from Neil at the Week 12 review.

The next decade of your golf starts today.

Twelve weeks from now, you can be moving better, hitting further, and looking forward to every round.
